Nixon, who served as executive vice president and chief enterprise architect at UMB Bank, will become the county CIO on July 29, 2019, according to a county press release.
“As a county resident myself, I want to increase the efficiency of and access to our technology services in this digital age,” said Nixon, in a statement.
Johnson County is just south of Kansas City, Kan., and straddles the Missouri border. With just under 600,000 resident, Johnson County has seen steady population growth as a regional suburb.
In addition to more than five years at UMB Bank, Nixon spent more than two years with DST Systems, a technology provider for the finance and health-care sectors. The company has since been acquired by SS&C Technologies, based in Connecticut, with offices in Kansas City, Mo. Nixon also spent more than 19 years with Fannie Mae in Washington, D.C., in various technology roles, and ultimately served as director of Enterprise Architecture, according to his LinkedIn profile. Nixon has a degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh.
Nixon’s predecessor was Michael Aldridge, who served as CIO for more than two years and left the county to join a cybersecurity consulting firm, said J. Joseph Waters, assistant county manager in Johnson County.
Nixon’s long career in management and leadership made him the right choice for CIO, Waters said.
“His innovative approach and customer focus aligns very well with our priorities, and his technological skills are very strong,” added Waters in an email. “We have an excellent organization with top-notch staff that provide a high level of public service to a great community. Bill is a highly skilled professional whose values, drive and vision are aligned with ours.”
Some of the biggest priorities for the Department of Technology and Innovation include the redesign for the county website and a multi-year project involving technology consolidation and centralized management initiatives, Waters said.
