Redwood City Gets Graphic with Economic Data

September 7, 2012 By

To improve the transparency of economic data, Redwood City, Calif., recently unveiled an online tool called the “Economic Indicators Dashboard.” Citizens, builders and developers all have access to dynamic charts and graphs illustrating economic data for the city.

"Redwood City is really providing an innovative and cutting-edge tool that will help to make good business decisions,” said Lawrence K. Buckmaster, president and CEO of the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce. “Their dashboard offers a quick and easy way to get some important data points and keep up to date with the economics of the area."

The tool includes statistics on revenue sources, commercial vacancy rates, building permit values, sales tax, and a list of top local private employers. The website also features economic news and a feedback page to continue improving content.

"This Dashboard is so straightforward and user-friendly, yet it provides a great deal of valuable information that businesses will find indispensable," said Bob Bell, City Manager of Redwood City. "We worked with Vice Mayor Gee and Councilmembers Foust and Ira of the Mayor's economic development subcommittee to create this easy-to-use tool, and I think residents will be interested in seeing where the City's revenues come from -- which in turn are used to provide the City services they use."

The Redwood City Economic Indicators Dashboard can be found online at RedwoodCity.org.
