UPDATE March 15, 2013: The annual Taxes and Savings Survey from Capital One Bank reveals that 85 percent of Americans expect to get a tax refund this year. Those taxpayers expecting a hefty sum back from the government are likely well aware that there is now less than a month until the Monday, April 15, filing deadline.
Still waiting to receive your refund? Check out our story, Where's My Tax Refund?, for free apps and online services to help taxpayers organize tax information, track refunds, trim budgets and invest.
Original story: Alabamians who are owed a tax refund from the state can now go on the Internet to find out "Where's My Refund?" Citizens can visit the state's official Web site to view the status of a state tax refund.
To access the system, users simply log on to the Alabama Web site and select the online services link. Individuals must enter their Social Security number and refund amount, in addition to selecting their tax form and filing status from a list on the Web site. Using this combination of specific information ensures that the refund status information is secure and displayed for only that taxpayer.
Once the identity of the taxpayer has been confirmed, the system displays the status information in a clear and concise format, which allows users to confirm that their return was received, that it is being processed, whether additional documents are needed and if a check has been issued. The system also informs users if their refund has been stopped because of an outstanding debt or collection.
"Prior to this service, taxpayers simply did not know when their refund checks would arrive, making it difficult to budget. Now we offer a way to check their refund status online, and taxpayers can anticipate when they will receive their refund checks and plan accordingly," said Alabama Revenue Commissioner Tom Surtees.

I still don't find the website helpful. My sister had her refund direct deposited and I requested to have mine mailed and it gives us the same information as to when we will receive our refund. She received hers weeks ago, I have yet to get mine. I wish it was more like the Federal site, where it gives an approximate date.
It is difficult to know when your refund is actually being refunded. It is now September and I have been audited, cleared and sometime in the "next 8 to 12 weeks" I should be receiving a refund. I filed taxes in February and now wonder if I will even receive a check this year.
useless
I filed completely on time even before the tax deadline, its now September and still no state refund what is wrong with Alabama so slow with everything

whereismystaterefund
Why is this a headline, including the word "new," when the article is from 2004? Waste of space and readers' time.
I have not received muy 2010 income tax refund and cannot even find a web sight to see if it was even received. The web sights are not useful and the phone line has asked me to wait one week--three times Sept.2011. Jan.2012 and March 2010 How can I possibly get through to anyone?????

To Tom Surtees, Alabama Revenue Commissioner, I m in dire need of my 2011 Tax Refund. My employers shut down therefore I am no longer employed. I am behind on my mortgage, the refund would definitely solve this problem. I was to receive 6k from IRS but since I owed them they confinscated all of my refund. Due to the loss of jobs in my household and the situation of the economy, the IRS should have retrieve half of the refund. I am in a serious financial bind.
I would like to know how/where to go or phone# to call to find out where an amended AL. State refund is. It was filled electronicly 12 weeks ago. I have not worked in 3 years and we are needing this information ASAP. Thank You!
Okay! I was supposed to get my state refund forever ago! I filed in February and now its almost December! Where is my refund? I really could use it!
where is my refund
this website is completely useless, Alabama, you suck, I'm beginning to think I'll never get my refund, maybe if you stopped handing out food stamps and welfare checks like candy this wouldn't be a problem
I have never recieved my income tax return from 2012 and i really think its a scam going on with people state checks and i am still looking for mine and i work too hard not to recieve my state check.
This is the worst website I have ever seen. You can not find anything!!!!!!!
We are working to fix the problem with site. Please continue to be patient.
I filed my 2012 taxes on February 2. Got my federal about 12 days later, but i've still not received my state. Its March 20th. what is up with this? I have bills and i'm depending on this check. This website is worthless.
I e-filed my 2012 state tax on February the 9th and still have not received it deposited into my account. When will it be. I have not found any phone number that can tell me anything or any email that can tell me anything.
electronic state tax done on 2/20, it was approved on 3/5 (3 weeks to do) and the "Where is my tax refund" site says I will see it in 8-10 weeks. Are you kidding, elementary children with pens can do it faster. The state hates giving back money so it is saving it for as long as they can. It is OUR money and we should have it sooner than 10-12 weeks, for the "rocket scientists" that work for the state that is 3 months. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW and PATHETIC.
Have to say something else. If we owed the state money they would threaten you with garnishment to get THEIR money. You can't use the excuse of personnal cut backs because of the years I have lived here the state has always been slow in giving the people back THEIR money. The money is not the state's but the peoples. I thought the government was for the PEOPLE not themselves. Give the people back THEIR money in a timely fashion and not in 3 months. STATE GREED is what it is, that and lazy state employees. GET TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeap I agree the state web site is useless
we're still waiting for ours, the website is entirely useless, and was a WASTE of our money. @Michael: try taking it a step further, see what happens if you try to not pay state tax anymore, just send them a letter stating what they owe you, and that you're deducting it from that balance.
I want to know where my refund is.I have needs for that money. I am so far behind on all my bills and would truly love to keep the power on at my house amongst other things. Please send it as soon as possible if not sooner. I dare say if I owed you you all would be dunning me for it so I'm dunning you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHERE'S MY REFUND./It's not fair that the state of Alabama should on to my refund when I nrrd it so badly. Things around my house have really taken a nose dive and the onlt wway I van get bailed out is to receive my refund and I mean quickly. Take in considerayion the fact the only income I have is what I make weekly . I can;t even get that dead beat dad to help me but yet he has all the time in the world to party.
where is my refund is a joke. we should not have to go around in circles to find out when it is coming. No wonder our state is the trouble it is in you send everyone around like you have us on the refund no wonder nothing gets done.
People in New York receive their refunds fast. What is going on with Alabama????Where is my refund? I am a single parent and I am desperately in NEED of my refund. I am not begging for a handout, I am asking for what is mine. PLEASE MR. GOVERNOR AND MR. MAYOR, CAN I HAVE MY FUNDS.
I'm still waiting on mine as well .... talked to person from local state revenue office she was able to tell me 2 weeks ago mine will go out in "next batch" not sure when next batch is she said last ones to go out as of last week was on March 26? UGH!!
i havnt recieved a letter nor a refund please let me know whats goin on.
I filed my taxes in JAN. its Apr. and I still have not received my return. This is one of the reasons why ppl are leaving the state of Alabama to live in other places. Alabama is so far behind in everything!
Filed my taxes in March. Since I moved to MD from AL, I had two different state income tax checks. MD came in less than 2 weeks. STill waiting on AL check...looks like it will be QUITE a while...smdh
20 days from my previous post and still NOTHING. Good Job Alabama.
Some of my friends got theirs back in two weeks https://myalabamataxes.alabama.gov/_/#7
I filed March 26, 2013. The website is useless! It said mine was received and processing the next day, unfortunately that hasn't changed yet and it is now April 23, 2013. Does anyone have an idea of the real time frame I am looking at? I normally wouldn't have a problem with waiting, but now I am faced with a medical emergency. I really need it!
Website is absolutely useless.
I filed my husbands using the website and he had his direct deposited within 3 weeks. I filed mine 10 weeks ago and have still heard nothing but "8-12 weeks" on this website. Ridiculous!
11 Days later, both me and my spouse received DD on the 26th. So it took almost 2 1/2 months exactly, just to let everyone know the time table we experienced. To the point of this website, the myalabamataxes subsite is pointless and could have been predicted to only enrage Alabamians. Don't pitch it as being able to predict your refund, but have it setup to use verbiage that is indirect. Either no one realized this, or you were hoping the constituency wouldn't. If this is how technology money is spent, it's no wonder you can't pay Alabamians what is owed.
The site is useless......it says the same thing and it has been many many wees...I filed as soon as possible. And don't even try to call the toll free number....imagine this..."experiencing difficulty"...for many weeks! If you ever can get and actual person, the y are rude and ignorant about any questions you may have! Very disappointed!
