On September 19-21, 2007, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas and
Public Technology Institute (PTI) will present a hands-on seminar to help local governments better understand the issues that arise when they explore the world of wireless broadband.
This seminar is the third that PTI and Corpus Christi have presented since 2004.
"Muni Wireless Applications Summit: Wi-Fi Done Right Part 2" will examine the options for using wireless infrastructure to offer services to citizens and to connect agencies and their field personnel. Corpus Christi will present the management strategy it has developed and the lessons it has learned in building out its citywide wireless network, and will demonstrate the different applications it has deployed.
The city began work on its wireless project in 2003 while investigating how to automate meter-reading operations to improve productivity and worker safety. That project grew as city officials identified uses for municipal wireless networks, and established innovative partnerships with private industry to develop and to bring the project to fruition.
In December 2006 Corpus Christi completed its 147-square-mile multipurpose wireless broadband network.
The Summit will convene at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel Bayfront Tower, 900 North Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78401, 361-887-1600.
