Tulsa School District to Create Electronic Community

Union Public Schools in Tulsa is installing an online system to promote collaboration among students, teachers, parents and administrators.

MESA, Ariz. -- Union Public Schools in Tulsa is installing an online system to promote collaboration among students, teachers, parents and administrators.

The district, which serves more than 13,500 students scattered over a 28-square-mile area, will implement technology from Pearson Education Technologies designed to create an online education community.

"Union Public Schools is one of the most innovative K-12 districts in the country. They balance the need to run a top-rated district today while upgrading, evolving and preparing for tomorrow," said Mike Morache, president of Pearson Education Technologies.

The district will use Pearson's Concert solution, which allows students to check school schedules and grades, as well as conduct standards-based self-tests. Teachers will be able to create class tests, post assignments and access professional development resources. Parents can monitor student progress and interact with teachers via e-mail and online reports and notifications.

The new technology allows the district to meet a range of challenges, including compliance with federal "No Child Left Behind" mandates, according to Kathy Dodd, director of assessment for Union Public Schools.
