Weaver Named Indiana Chief Information Officer

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has announced that Gerry Weaver will become chief information officer (CIO) on December 1. Weaver, who is currently the state's chief technology officer, will replace Karl Browning. Browning has been named the new commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.

"Gerry's efforts have already produced outstanding results for state government and saved Hoosier taxpayers millions of dollars. I'm confident his leadership will continue us on that path," said Daniels.

Weaver joined the Indiana Office of Technology in January 2005. He has been responsible for the consolidation of all infrastructure services across agencies creating a single statewide service organization, and he has led the negotiation of contracts with all information technology vendors. These initiatives have resulted in more than $25 million in annual savings for the state. Previously, Weaver served as an executive at Electronic Data Systems Corporation and General Motors.

He has also served as a member of the board of directors of the Indy Partnership and on the executive committee of the Indiana Sports Corporation. Weaver has an undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics for the University of Wisconsin.
