Fire, Smoke in Western Washington

This is a bit unusual for winds to blow from the East to the West.

The Sunday National Weather Service forecast for Western Washington is an unusual one, with smoke drifting west from the fires in Eastern Washington.

One of the things that is happening in Eastern Washington is that the air quality has been significantly degraded. Many people have cut their vacations short or cancelled because of the air quality. People with respiratory issues are the ones most affected by the smoke, and even I have had some sinus problems these last few days. These same issues are impacting people in Western Washington. The air quality is supposed to improve by later today with winds shifting and coming in off of the Pacific Ocean -- which is the norm.

The view from where I'm sitting today reminds me of the Smoky Mountains back East.
