New State Director Appointed in Rhode Island

No one in emergency management in Rhode Island is dreaming of a white Christmas.

A bunch of new governors were elected back in November. As all new governors do, they are making key appointments to their administration. I see that Rhode Island Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo has selected Peter Gaynor as her state emergency management director.

I previously met Pete when we were going through the Executive Leadership Program at the Naval Postgraduate School. (Note: The school is still accepting applications through Jan. 15, 2015.) Back then he was leading the city of Providence's emergency management office.

It was then that I reminded him that both his predecessor and the then state director had gotten the ax after a big snowstorm. From the news item on his appointment I see that snow is still in everyone's memory bank.

Good luck Pete and keep that snow blower handy!
