Oregon CIO’s Exit Interview

After spending 38 years in state government, Oregon CIO Dugan Petty retires Thursday.

Petty has been Oregon CIO since 2006, where he led efforts to implement enterprise IT systems and strategies. Prior to that, he spearheaded purchasing reforms as Oregon’s procurement director. In 2011, Government Technology named Petty one of the “Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers.” In this interview from the NASCIO annual conference in San Diego, Petty talks about his career, offers advice and drops some clues about what he’ll do next.
