How did a recently fired programmer who “worked” for a well-known tech company avoid doing any work for six years?

Answer: He automated his job.

Reddit user FiletOfFish1066 did nothing but play computer games, browse the Web, work out, collect $95,000 annually and screw around for six years after he discovered a way to automate his work.

“In the past 6 years I have maybe done 50 hours of real work,” the slacker wrote. “So basically nothing. And nobody really cared. The tests were all running successfully. I shit you not, I had no friends or anything at work either, so nobody ever talked to me except my boss and occasionally the devs for the software I was testing.”

After getting fired, FiletOfFish1066 claims to have saved up $200,000, but lamented having forgotten how to program and questioned how he would make a living going forward.
