"This is an important step forward in helping residents have as much information as possible when making critical decisions about who will care for their loved ones," said Governor Napolitano.
The Web site, www.AZCareCheck.com, enables users to:
- Easily search for licensed nursing homes and assisted living and child care centers across Arizona
- Obtain important, up-to-date information regarding inspection reports and complaint investigations, as well as recent enforcement actions taken by the Arizona Department of Health Services
- Download and print inspection report
- View quality ratings for nursing homes across the state
"This is a great example of state government working to empower consumers," she said.
As part of the Governor's Efficiency Review Initiative, the new site will allow the Department of Health to more effectively use licensing staff. Previously, staff had to search through files and copy and mail inspection reports and other materials to residents. This will permit licensing staff to spend more time responding to complaints and ensuring the health and safety of Arizonans.
The site is part of the Governor's Executive Order 2007-01, Ensuring Quality in Long Term Care.
DHS Director Susan Gerard said it's important to remember that nothing takes the place of visiting a facility first and seeing the quality of care provided, but www.AZCareCheck.com is a good starting point for consumers.
"Choosing quality care for your loved one is one of the biggest decisions people face. This Web site gives quick access to critical information people need to make informed decisions," Gerard said.
