Arlington, Va., Reopens Hotspot Commuter Store

The store is a WiFi hotspot, allowing customers to have a wireless Internet connection while waiting for their bus

Last week, Arlington County celebrated the reopening of its Commuter Store in Rosslyn.

The newly renovated store has been redesigned to give customers a more interactive experience and features a large electronic screen with regional transit system maps, screens displaying news and schedule information for the buses downstairs at the Metro station.

There are also two commuter kiosks for customers to use the internet for commuting and transit information. Schedules and maps for all regional transit systems are also available. The store is a WiFi hotspot, allowing customers to have a wireless Internet connection while waiting for their bus.

"Arlington's Commuter Stores provide an important service to County residents and to the thousands who commute into Arlington to work everyday," said County Board Chairman Jay Fisette, who led the ribbon cutting ceremony. "They highlight the many transit options that make it easy to enjoy Arlington's urban villages without owning a car."

Arlington's three Commuter Stores offer convenient, one-stop shopping to obtain information and tickets, tokens and passes for the different transportation options available in the Washington metropolitan area. The Rosslyn Commuter Store, now in its 12th year, served more than 39,800 customers and had over $1 million in fare sales during FY '05.
