Budget Cuts Listed on Alabama Web Site

Gov. Riley proposes over 314 million in reductions

By visiting the Alabama Web site, citizens can view a list of the $314,565,053 in spending cuts Gov. Bob Riley is proposing for the coming fiscal year.

This is the same Web site Riley unveiled last month listing programs that have experienced budget reductions of almost $403 million since he took office in January 2003. If the legislature approves the proposed budgets Riley has submitted, a total of $717 million in program spending will have been removed from the state's budgets in the last two years.

"This Web site is a part of my administration's continual efforts to make government more open, more transparent and more accountable to the people," Riley said. "I hope citizens will visit the site and learn for themselves what dramatic steps we have taken and will keep taking to make sure their state government is as efficient as possible."
