CTIA Praises Passage of Internet Tax Non-discrimination Act

The act creates a technology neutral definition of Internet access which includes wireless connectivity to the Internet

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) praised the Senate Commerce Committee for passing S. 150, the Internet Tax Non-discrimination Act of 2003. The Act makes permanent the Internet tax moratorium and was passed with the leadership of senators George Allen (R-VA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR).

"Today, the Commerce Committee blazed a new trail through the mountains of taxes that had previously loomed between consumers and the Internet," said Steve Berry, senior vice president of government affairs for CTIA. "Americans access the Internet in a myriad of ways; this legislation ensures that no matter the method, that access will be tax free."

The act, as passed by the committee, creates a technology neutral definition of "Internet access" which includes wireless connectivity to the Internet.

CTIA is the international association for the wireless telecommunications industry, representing carriers, manufacturers and wireless Internet providers.
