Chandler, Ariz., to Promote Technology Through GIS Day

Will explore how GIS is used in daily life

The average resident may not understand the technology behind Geographic Information Systems -- or GIS. But the next time you order a pizza for delivery or hit the ATM machine for some spare cash, you are reaping the benefits of GIS technology.

Not everyone knows that speedier pizza delivery, ATM's and, of course, that the city's 9-1-1 emergency response system are all aided by GIS -- and that is why Chandler Arizona's Information Technology Division is committed to educating the public on its real-world applications.

On Wednesday, November 15, the public is invited to attend the City of Chandler's 7th annual GIS Day to be held at the Chandler Community Center.

The event will allow citizens to explore how GIS is utilized within the city with the aid of the Chandler's GIS staff. Also, the Harlem Globetrotters will make a special appearance from 10-11 a.m. to show the "global" importance GIS plays in our everyday lives.
