City Library Offers Two New Databases

History and local wildlife databases open to the public.

The City of Corpus Christi Public Libraries Department announced that two new library databases are now accessible to citizens through the library's Web site.

One of the databases that should be of special interest to birding enthusiasts and that ties in with Corpus Christi's designation again this year as the nation's "Birdiest City," is the Birds of North America. This collection contains the equivalent of 18,000 pages of information, including text, images, sounds and maps on 718 different types of birds nesting in the United States and Canada. The material has been produced by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. Library users can access the Cornell database at the library or from home, using their Corpus Christi Public Library card number.

The second database now being offered is local and regional history material. This collection contains more than 11,000 historical photographs of Corpus Christi. In addition, it features audio clips dealing with local history provided by Corpus Christi Caller-Times columnist Murphy Givens as well as five books on the regional history of South Texas and Northern Mexico, which are particularly useful for genealogical research.

To access either database, follow the links from the library Web site.
