City of Las Vegas Adds Another Feature to Web Site

"This feature allows us to go one step farther, providing open access to our constituents 24 hours a day"

Las Vegas City government is becoming more accessible to the public with the addition of a new online service. Beginning with the July 12 meeting, archived video of the Las Vegas City Council meetings will be available through the city's Web site. The city of Las Vegas is the first government agency in the state of Nevada to make use of this technology.

The video will be available on demand and allows users to view video of individual items from the council meetings as well as read the backup documentation and the actual agenda item.

"In the past, we were able to reach out to our constituents by offering online agendas and backup as well as live video of the meetings on our Web site," said City Clerk Roni Ronemus. "This feature allows us to go one step farther, providing open access to our constituents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

The new program will include future phases as well. The addition of the Planning Commission is anticipated as a future project. In August, users will also be able to find meeting agendas and minutes dating back to October 2004. A new robust search function will also be added allowing users to search agendas and meeting minutes by keywords, phrases, meeting types and date.

Las Vegas already has a long list of online services including online payment services, parking ticket payment, permit and business license search and submission of citizen complaints. Wireless Internet connection is also available in a number of city facilities.
