Connecticut DOT Reorganization Panel Web Site Revealed

"Public input -- through hearings and online -- will be critical as we recast this agency."

Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today unveiled a Web site for the Governor's Commission on the Reorganization of the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) and encouraged citizens to submit ideas and comments for consideration by the group.

The site, which may be accessed from the homepage of the main DOT Web site, includes a button to click and send the panel an e-mail as it deliberates on the structure and operation of the 3,200-employee agency -- one of state government's largest. Rell announced creation of the committee in the wake of disclosure of a number of issues relating to the department's operations.

"The DOT is a public agency and I want the DOT to serve our citizens with the best organizational structure and the best services and programs," Governor Rell said. "Public input -- through hearings and online -- will be critical as we recast this agency. I believe the people who travel on our roads and rails every day will have valuable thoughts and observations for consideration -- they are, after all, the primary users of our transportation infrastructure."

"The DOT is entrusted with billions of state and federal taxpayer dollars and I want the people of our state to have their voices heard," the governor added. "This Web site will help ensure that the panel hears from as many concerned citizens as possible."

Governor Rell created the panel in April. It is chaired by Michael Critelli, Chairman and former CEO of Pitney-Bowes Corporation of Stamford. The group is expected to make recommendations to Governor Rell by Dec. 1. Hearing dates and meeting agendas are also included on the Web site.
