Connecticut Web Site Has Information to Protect Computer Users

"Taking time to monitor your child's online usage is an essential part of raising and caring for a child in this day and age"

Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced recently that a state Web site , helps residents to protect themselves with information on how to stay safe online.

"Every resident should take steps to make sure they are armed with the best possible information to protect themselves on line," Rell said. "This Web site offers links to a variety of guides for parents, students and teens regarding online safety, including downloadable calendars for kids and adults. I urge people to take a few minutes and visit the site to learn more about safety and security on the Internet."

The site features links to information applicable to students, parents, small business owners and home computer users from a variety of organizations, including the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Rell expressed special concern about online dangers to children. "Taking time to monitor your child's online usage is an essential part of raising and caring for a child in this day and age."

The site also includes links to guides published by the Federal Trade Commission for those who use the Internet to purchase goods, from both stores and online auctions, and to conduct other business activities.
