Efficiency Hotline for Washington State

Toll-free telephone line will help Washingtonians and public employees recommend efficiency measures, report waste, commend achievements.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire Friday signed into law a measure to establish a state government efficiency hotline. The toll-free telephone number will allow Washingtonians and public employees to recommend measures to improve efficiency in state and local government, report abuse or inefficiency and recognize achievements.

"Accountability to is one of my top priorities and is something that Washingtonians expect from state government," said Gregoire. "This is just one more way that we are making government accountable to the people we serve."

The efficiency hotline will be established by the Washington State Auditor's Office, who will follow up on every call. All calls will be kept confidential.

Engrossed Senate Bill 5513, sponsored by Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-Gig Harbor), passed the House with 96 votes and passed the Senate with 46 votes. The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the Legislative session.
