Emergency Training For Reno Officials

Sponsored by FEMA -- offers new ideas and increased awareness by placing participants in a realistic crisis situations

Reno City officials will have the opportunity to further enhance their emergency incident management skills when they attend the Integrated Emergency Management Course at the National Emergency Management Institute at Emmitsburg, Md. this April.

The Reno City Council designated Council Members Jessica Sferrazza and Dave Aiazzi to attend the five day course that is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) along with about 18 key city staff members involved in emergency incident management.

The exercise-based training activity is designed to enhance emergency management awareness and skills for policies, plans and procedures to protect life and property based on national emergency management guidelines that can be used for all community-wide incidents ranging from wildland fires, earthquakes and other natural disasters to large scale accidents or acts of terrorism.

The program includes a combination of classroom presentations and discussions, small-group planning sessions and practical exercises that offer new ideas and increased awareness by placing participants in a realistic crisis situation within a structured learning environment. The simulated disaster exercise places decision makers in the roles that are most similar to the position they will hold during actual emergency incidents.

FEMA will reimburse the City for airfare and will provide transportation to and lodging at the National Emergency Training Center at Emmitsburg, Maryland. The City will be responsible for the cost of meals for the week, which is estimated at about $80.00 per person.
