According to FCEDA, Fairfax County is the first U.S. county to open a marketing office in India.
"The Indian technology industry is experiencing tremendous growth and we want to be in place in Bangalore to help companies when they decide on expanding to the U.S.," said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of FCEDA. "Our 4,800 technology companies and our location near the nation's capital and Washington Dulles International Airport make Fairfax County a natural location for expanding Indian companies, and being on the ground in India helps us spread the word about the opportunities here."
"Many people are concerned about U.S. jobs going to India. This office will reverse that trend by creating jobs in the U.S.," Gordon said.
Fairfax County is home to more than 4,800 technology firms and almost 300 foreign-owned companies. Nine Indian companies have offices in Fairfax County, including Guru Infotech (Epiance), HCL Technologies America, Indotronix and Megasoft. More than $7.1 billion in U.S. federal government contracts are awarded annually to companies in Fairfax County.
Prasad Tagat, the director of the office in India, will promote Fairfax County to Indian firms. Tagat has more than 20 years experience working in India, Europe and the U.S. In 1999 he founded Bulls Eye Media Group, an online advertising and PR firm with offices in Bangalore and Fairfax.
In addition to the Bangalore office, FCEDA's other international locations are in London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, and the recently opened Tel Aviv, Israel, office. According to FCEDA, Fairfax County is the only U.S. county to have representation in five countries.
