Governor Spitzer Attends Technology Roundtable in Long Island

Roundtable was focused on the need to grow high tech industries and jobs, develop industry clusters and promote an innovation economy that will make New York a center for economic growth and opportunity.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and Empire State Development (ESD) Downstate Chairman Pat Foye attended a technology roundtable this morning hosted by the Long Island Association (LIA) at their headquarters in Melville. As part of his statewide tour following the State of the State address, Spitzer attended the roundtable to further discuss how to make New York State the best place to run a business. Attended by local business leaders, the roundtable was focused on the need to grow high tech industries and jobs, develop industry clusters and promote an innovation economy that will make New York a center for economic growth and opportunity.

"We must consider innovative strategies for spurring economic growth and opportunity," said Spitzer. "By building a true innovation economy and developing strategic industries on Long Island we will make New York the best place in the world to live, work, raise a family and run a business. Organizations like the LIA that are dedicated to ensuring that Long Island becomes a leader in high tech growth have a vital role to play in this endeavor. I look forward to working with them to ensure that Long Island remains a hot bed for technological innovation."

"Long Island has long been a source of technological innovation for the nation," said LIA President Matthew T. Crosson. "To build on that heritage now we need the help of New York State. The technology leaders present today, and the others who work with the LIA's Technology Committee, look forward to working with Governor Spitzer and Chairman Foye on a plan for the region's technology development, as well as related issues such as affordable housing and downtown redevelopment."
