Idaho Board of Examiners Puts Surplus Property on the Web

Electronic government application developed by State Controller's Office

The Idaho State Board of Examiners announced on Friday an automated, paperless state surplus personal property declaration process for all state agencies. Authorized agency representatives can now declare surplus personal property over the Internet by logging onto the website of the Idaho State Controller's Office and selecting "Surplus Property" found under the Board of Examiners' menu button. The simple interactive form with self-help guides will allow quick declaration of surplus items.

J.D. Williams explained, "This is one more innovation in electronic government developed by the State Controller's Office. It will reduce expenditures while enhancing our services to Idaho citizens and their government."

Not only is declaring surplus property as easy as 1-2-3, but also reading lists of currently available surplus personal property will be a click away to anyone with access to the Internet. Now Internet users can visit the State Controller's website to search for select types of surplus goods or see what a particular agency is currently offering as surplus. The surplus property list may also be found at "Surplus Property" in the Government - Agency Index.

"With these new Web pages, people aren't expected to 'know the system' and negotiate their way among bureaucratic agencies to learn about available surplus property," Keith Johnson, Chief Deputy State Controller, said.

This new process is expected to save Idaho taxpayers thousands of dollars annually in reduced copying and distribution costs. Plus, it will make the surplus property lists accessible to city, county and state agencies, to schools and non-profit organizations and to the public. This accessibility will expand potential markets and optimize revenue to the State of Idaho from sales of surplus goods.
