Idaho Gov. Celebrates New Dell Tech Support Center

State to provide $2.4 million in workforce development funds

Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne joined local officials in Twin Falls today for the grand opening of a technical support center for Dell Computer Corp., a Fortune 50 company headquartered in Austin, Texas.

"The fact that Dell Computer chose Twin Falls, Idaho, out of more than 3,300 communities throughout the U.S. says a great deal about our dedicated workforce, affordable business costs and broadband connectivity," said Kempthorne. "Dell is an outstanding company and a fine addition to Idaho's corporate community."

Kempthorne said local community leadership and a pro-business climate brought the Fortune 50 company to the Magic Valley.

When a former Albertson's grocery store surfaced as a possible location for the new Twin Falls facility, the governor called Albertson's executives and encouraged them to make the property available for Dell's new facility.

The state also agreed to provide $2.4 million in workforce development funds to train Dell's new employees, and the company qualifies for Idaho's new job and broadband tax credits.

Initially employing 203 technical positions and over 30 managerial and support staff, Twin Falls facility employees will answer technical inquiries from Dell computer users in the United States and India. Dell officials today said they plan to expand the workforce to more than 400 employees.

According to Southern Idaho Economic Development Director Jan Rogers, the Company's annual payroll of $5 million will have a multiplier effect, contributing more than $12 million to the local economy each year.
