"During these years," continued Porter, "Illinois deliberately kept a low profile as we concentrated on the rationalization and consolidation process, and we were not in a position to entertain many new industry offerings. We are now starting to turn the corner and are beginning to look at specific products, applications and services that align with our Enterprise Shared Services model. Proposed initiatives include Enterprise Portal Services, Enterprise Content Management, and Geospatial Information Systems, just to name a few; and state standards have already been established in many of these solution areas.
"As Illinois continues to move forward with Enterprise Shared Services, we are very interested in what other states are doing and what private industry has to offer within specific solution areas. To ensure that vendor interaction is more productive for all parties, Illinois no longer entertains solicitation at the agency level, but rather requires introduction of new products and services at an enterprise level via the Architecture Rationalization Board. Additional information regarding this new vendor management process will be posted via the Procurement Bulletin Board. Illinois anticipates this year's Summit will play a key role in establishing future communications relative to its various Enterprise Shared Service initiatives."
