"Seconds count in an emergency, wireless callers need to know that they can be located and reached in an emergency which is why we want to reduce the time between when a call is received and when help arrives. These 911 upgrades will help law enforcement officers process wireless 911 calls faster, so help can arrive more quickly," Sebelius said.
Sebelius said 41 Kansas Public Safety Answering Points will receive a total of $5,055,169 from the E911 state grant. The Kansas Wireless Enhanced 911 Advisory Board determines the grant awards for the state grant funds.
Local communities will receive assistance in implementing wireless enhanced 911 services; purchasing equipment or upgrading and modifying equipment used solely to process wireless enhanced 911 calls; and providing training to operate the equipment, including costs to train personnel to provide effective services for those who have communication disabilities.
Counties with population of less than 75,000, or any city located within such a county, are eligible for E911 state grant funds.
