Launch of Web Page for Connecticut Judicial Selection Commission

New Web page is online resource to help governor compile list of diverse, qualified candidates interested in becoming a judge.

Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that Connecticut's Judicial Selection Commission will officially launch a new Web site that will help recruit qualified individuals from the legal field with diverse backgrounds to submit their names for consideration for an appointment to a state judicial post.

"Diversifying state government continues to be one of my top priorities for my Administration and that means appointing qualified attorneys with diverse backgrounds to fill judicial appointments. We've made great strides in diversifying state government but there is always more we can do. This new Web page is an online resource that will help us do just that," Rell said.

"My office will aggressively promote this Web page among various legal groups, community organizations and professional associations and urge them to join us in recruiting attorneys to submit their names for judicial posts when vacancies occur," Rell said.

The Judicial Selection Commission's Web page provides online visitors with downloadable information, including questionnaires, financial affidavits and applications, for the position of Superior Court Judge, judicial reappointments and elevation to Appellate Court and the state Supreme Court.

The Web page also provides other important information to people when it comes to seeking judgeships, including the background information on each of the commissioners, list of judges for reappointment and governing state statutes for the Judicial Selection Commission.

"The Judicial Selection Commission's Web page provides anyone who is interested in being a judge the information and answers they need to make an informed decision before submitting their name for consideration. For those of us who want to encourage someone from the legal community who want to be included on the list, we will use this Web page to recruit the best-of-the-best to go through the judicial selection process," Rell said.

The purpose of the Judicial Selection Commission is to evaluate, investigate and recommend qualified candidates for consideration by the governor for nomination as judges for the Superior Court, the Appellate Court and the Supreme Court.
