"I am delighted that the Legislature is restoring the full funding for the Panel. This would not have happened without the joint effort of the business and labor community and I commend them," said Barry Broad, acting chairperson of the Employment Training Panel (ETP).
The ETP program was designed to improve the skills of California's workforce and retain businesses in the state. Historically, revenue generated through the Employment Training Tax has averaged $70 million to $100 million annually. This year the state was prepared to divert $32 million in training funds to other programs but the Legislature voted last week to restore those funds back to the ETP program.
Every $1 million in ETP training funds supports more than 85 businesses and 800 workers, primarily in the manufacturing and high-tech sectors. More than 90 percent of ETP money supports "employer-focused" job training and incumbent workers.
