"This supplemental budget provides resources to secure Maryland's election system with optical scan voting machines and also makes critical investments in health care," said Governor Ehrlich. "I look forward to working with all members of the House and Senate to ensure this budget is adopted."
The supplemental budget includes:
- $28,597,770 ($14.5 million general funds, $14.1 million special funds) for fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for additional funds to lease an optical scan voting system with the capacity to provide a voter-verified paper audit trail, including units that will be accessible to voters with disabilities.
- $13,377,408 for fiscal years 2006 and 2007 for additional costs associated with early voting as set forth in Chapter 5 of the 2006 Session.
