According to Campus Philly, more than 366,000 students attend college in the Philadelphia region. Every year about 60,000 degrees are conferred yet only 26 percent of those graduates who are not originally from the area remain in Philadelphia.
"We need to get individuals who go to school here, to stay here," said Mayor Nutter. "Too many students are taking their skills learned here to other cities. The goal of the Campus Philly Online Internship Fair is to retain these future leaders and assist them in building lasting careers in Philadelphia."
The Mayor's Internship Program is an eight-week summer internship for undergraduate students. Interns are assigned projects providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to high-level City managers. For more information on the Mayor's Internship visit the Web site.
Representatives of Campus Philly are expecting more than 2,500 students to participate in the online internship fair. Companies participating in the fair include the Philadelphia Zoo, WHYY, NFL Films, the Franklin Institute, GlaxoSmithKline and Merck.
Campus Philly is a nonprofit organization that works with the area's colleges and universities to connect students with social, cultural, and community service opportunities in the Philadelphia region. The fair runs through February 29. Students can register at www.campusphilly.org/careers.
