Mayor's Plan to Make Pittsburg a 21st Century City

Budget will increase transparency and accountability in government through technology investment

As part of the newly released 2007 budget for the City of Pittsburg, Pa., Mayor Luke Ravenstahl included a plan to make the Pittsburg a 21-century city.

"...this budget reflects my efforts to create a new, 21st Century government by investing in cutting edge technology and management tools," Ravenstahl said. "Establishing a vibrant City requires a government that is run efficiently and effectively. A government that is more accountable and transparent. As a result, this budget includes increased investment in technology and a number of key management initiatives, including the following:
  • Over $1.5 million for automation and information technology, including $200,000 to begin improvements for the code enforcement and permitting functions
  • We will utilize GIS technology to optimize routes for refuse and recycling trucks, decreasing the number of routes from 44 to 32 while increasing service to residents by collecting refuse and bulk in a more timely and efficient manner."
Ravenstahl said his mission as mayor was to improve, innovate and "do more with less." He claims that this budget will increase government accountability and transparency.

"[The budget] establishes a new bar by which to evaluate not only the cost of City government, but - equally important - the quality of the services we deliver ... Pittsburgh's future is bright and we are headed in the right direction."
