Michigan Unveils New Web Applications for Business Services, Licenses and Grants

"We continue to use technology to make it easier ... to start up or run a business"

Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced today new and enhanced online services that make it even easier to start up a business, obtain a permit, apply for a grant or do other business with the state.

"We continue to use technology to make it easier ... to start up or run a business in Michigan," Granholm said. "The new online service is a single point of entry on the Internet to register for unemployment insurance and taxes. Together with the award-winning MiTAPS portal which centralizes state licenses and permits, we're making Michigan even more business friendly."

Part of the online services are e-registration applications for business taxes. The Michigan Department of Information Technology (MDIT) worked together with the Department of Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG) and the Department of Treasury to improve the former paper application process, which took as long as six weeks.

In addition to business services and licenses, the new eGrants Web site provides comprehensive grant information on all grant opportunities with state agencies. The new site allows applicants to search and find grant opportunities of which there are currently over 300. Applicants and grantees can apply online and submit their progress and financial reports electronically.

"Michigan is leading the nation in developing innovative approaches for government and the private sector to work together," said Steven E. Chester, director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. "We are proving that environmental protection and economic development go hand-in-hand."
