Minn. Web site Prepares Voters for the Big Day

"I hope this tool will enable citizens to get the information they need"

Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer today encouraged voters to log onto her Web site to prepare for Election Day.

"The secretary of state's Web site provides a one-stop shop for voter information -- everything from how to register and vote, to where to vote and who will be on the individual voter's ballot," explained Kiffmeyer. "I encourage voters to check it out in preparation for this coming Election Day."

"And, especially for people who will be new to voting this year, we have an excellent video ... available on the Web site," said Kiffmeyer. The video, entitled "Voting in Minnesota: What to Expect," walks viewers through the process of registering and voting, and it explains the voting process, ballots, and voting equipment. In addition, voters can find a listing of candidates for office who will appear on the ballot specific to the voters' own addresses.

"I hear from people all the time -- especially young people -- that the number one deterrent to the participation is a lack of information," said Kiffmeyer. "I hope this tool will enable citizens to get the information they need to feel fully knowledgeable and confident so that they will vote."
