According to NASCIO's press release, state government projects and initiatives from each of the 50 U.S. states are eligible to be nominated for these prestigious awards, which are given annually to state IT programs and systems that have created proven, cost-effective and innovative solutions in the operation of state government. The Recognition Awards Program, in its 18th consecutive year, features several new categories that reflect the wide range of IT projects and initiatives under development within state governments.
"Successful state information technology initiatives should be highlighted and shared," said South Carolina CIO and NASCIO Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Jim Bryant. "NASCIO's awards program encourages state governments to learn from each other so that they can ultimately provide more efficient, higher quality services to their constituents."

Business Continuity, Cross-Boundary Collaboration and Partnerships, Data, Information and Knowledge Management, Digital Government:
Government to Business (G to B), Digital Government: Government to Citizen (G to C), Digital Government: Government to Government (G to G), Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise IT Management Initiatives, Information Communications Technology (ICT) Innovations, and IT Project and Portfolio Management.
