"Most Americans live in cities," said NLC President Bart Peterson, "and we are the first responders, first providers and the level of government closest to the people. As such, cities must be at the forefront of national and state policies. I look forward to working with all of these leaders in the year to come as we address the challenges cities are facing."
Sonja Reece, mayor pro tem of Normal, Ill., was named chair of the Information Technology and Communications Committee. Council Member Jim Haggerton of Tukwila, Wash.; and Commissioner Gary Resnick of Wilton Manors, Fla., were both named vice chairs of the committee.
