Nevada DMV Kiosks Win National Awards

Motorists can renew their vehicle registrations and driver's license renewals as well as handle vehicle insurance verification on the machines

Department of Motor Vehicles Director Ginny Lewis was named "Industry Deployer of the Year" and the department's self-service kiosks won top honors for Best Kiosk Application for Government, Education or a Non-Profit Agency at KioskCom's Fifth Annual Excellence Awards held in April at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

A panel of 21 judges, representing analyst firms, kiosk vendors and suppliers and kiosk media, selected winners in a dozen categories. Lewis was honored for developing the department's kiosk project to improve service to customers who pay fees with cash.

Nevada's kiosks are the only ones in the nation that take cash as well as credit cards, give change and dispense documents on the spot. Motorists can renew their vehicle registrations and driver's license renewals as well as handle vehicle insurance verification on the machines. Since the project began in June, 2004, Nevada motorists have used the kiosks for almost 300,000 transactions.

The DMV`s new office on Decatur Blvd. in North Las Vegas features the first outdoor kiosks where customers can do business with the DMV after hours.
