New Federal Act Requires States to Reexamine Laws on Sexual Offenders, Says NCSL
States that fail to meet new standards face a reduction in federal funding.
Because of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, nearly every state in the nation will have to reexamine its laws on sexual offenders, according to Donna Lyons, director of the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) Criminal Justice Program. It sets new standards for sex offender registration and how that information is shared with other states. States that don't meet these standards face a reduction in federal funding, according to the NCSL.
