"This Web site is a win for New Jersey taxpayers and a win for those hoping to bid on contracts," Corzine said. "By making the process more open and transparent, we will be able to attract more bids, which will save taxpayers money and give more businesses, particularly small, women and minority-owned businesses, better opportunities to win these contracts."
The site contains contract information for over 100 state entities and allows businesses to search available contracts or receive email notifications of bidding opportunities within their realm of expertise. State entities have been adding contracts on this Web site over the past months, and by July 1 all state contracts will be posted.
The Web site stems from requirements outlined in Executive Order 37, which laid down substantial reforms at the state's independent authorities, and builds on EO 34, which created the Division of Minority and Women Business Development. This Web site fulfills the division's mission as laid out in EO 34 by leveraging the state's purchasing power to create opportunities for small, minority and women owned businesses (SMWBEs).
The Division of Minority and Women Business Development has also created an online directory of SMWBEs, which includes summary information on each company. Businesses can market their goods, services, and experience directly to purchasing agents and prime contractors through their listing in that directory.
