New Web Portal for Vermont

"Having a Web portal through which we can connect more Vermonters, visitors and entrepreneurs with the services and expertise of state government is an important step in this process."

The State of Vermont has launched a new Web portal designed to maximize citizen to government, business to government and government to government information exchanges, enabling one-stop customer services via the Web, the Governor's office announced today.

Governor Jim Douglas said the new statewide Web portal will direct users to a collection of commonly used features and services and serves as a gateway to State agencies and programs.

"Information, resources and services are organized by subject area which means the user can more easily and quickly find what they need," the governor said. "Vermont.gov has also been enhanced with new services including a new search engine, links for weather, maps, road reports, and calendars. Online services are prominently displayed so Vermonters and visitors can quickly access services."

The redesign effort, launched in January, is the result of months of research, analysis, and content updates designed to make visiting Vermont.gov better for the user.

Douglas also said the new Web portal is consistent with his e-State Initiative -- Vermont's plan to become the first state to offer universal access to data, cellular voice coverage and high-speed broadband technology -- a goal the governor says can be achieved by 2010.
