New Web Site Provides Single Entry Point to the Australian Government

"It also provides access to information and services including electronic tax lodgement, family allowance management and business transaction services" -- Senator Eric Abetz

Special Minister of State, Senator Eric Abetz, last week launched the government's new Web site and said that it provided a single point of entry for people wanting to access government information and services.

"The new australia.gov.au site supports the government's commitment to improving access to quality government information and services," said Abetz. "It is the single and key public entry point to government information and services, with citizens able to, at the touch of a button, access useful information and services for business and personal purposes."

The australia.gov.au site, owned and managed by the Australian Government Information Management Office [AGIMO], links to over 700 government Web sites and provides a search function covering 5 million online resources across federal, state and territory government agencies.

"It also provides access to information and services including electronic tax lodgement, family allowance management and business transaction services," said Abetz. "A new and improved search engine indexes some 5 million Australian government resources, proving the most comprehensive searchable index of government resources yet made available.

"The public expect information and services that are simple to understand and easy to use and access," said Minister Abetz.
