New York Government Agencies Honored for IT Savvy

Projects and people are recognized for innovation, leadership and service to citizens

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Center for Digital Government recently announced that 12 New York State agencies will receive "Best of New York" awards for outstanding information technology leadership and innovations.

The agencies were selected from over 50 entries to the 2003 Best of New York Awards program. Selections were based on criteria such as collaboration between agencies, the innovative use of technology, and the improvement of services to citizens or state employees. The awards were also broken down into two categories: leadership and development and best application.

"It gives us great pleasure in honoring and recognizing these agency IT leaders and their projects," says Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. "Their hard work and innovations played key roles in strengthening government operations in New York and improving the services delivered to citizens."

The 12 agency leaders and applications were acknowledged by the Center at a special ceremony during the Best of New York Executive Leadership Forum on May 29 at the Albany Marriott.

The projects and leaders are:

- Leadership in IT Management: James T. Dillon, New York State Chief Information Officer.

- Excellence in Project Management: Marianna Stout, Director, Project Management Office.

- Best Overall Application: e.JusticeNY, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

- Best Application for Business Needs: Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance, Welfare Reporting & Tracking System.

- Best Application for Business Needs: New York State Directory Services, Office for Technology.

- Best Application Serving the Public: Online Permitting Assistance & Licensing Program, NYS Governor's Office of Regulatory Reform.

- Best Application Serving the Public: E-Zpass, NYS Thruway Authority.

- Best IT Collaboration: One Stop Credentialing and Registration, Department of Taxation and Finance, Department of Transportation, Department of Motor Vehicles, NYS Police and NYS Thruway Authority.

- Best IT Collaboration: Rector Street Technology is a collaboration of eight small NYC agencies located at 40 Rector Street in lower Manhattan created to share advanced technology. The agencies include the Board of Standards and Appeals; Campaign Finance Board; Civilian Complaint Review Board; Commission on Human Rights; Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings; Office Collective Bargaining; Office of Labor Relations; and Taxi and Limousine Commission.

- Best In-House Developed Application: Borough Commissioner's Tracking System, New York City Department of Transportation.

- Best In-House Developed Application: Clean Water/Drinking Water Information Support System, New York State Environmental Facilities Corp.

- Most Innovative Use of Technology: Web Service-Based Location of Validation, New York City Department of Transportation.
