In addition, County also awarded IBM a 10-year exclusive contract to refresh over 9,000 county desktops, notebooks and servers.
IBM will implement and host the ERP solution for 10 years at its data center in Greece, NY. IBM won the deal in a competitive bid and Monroe County has the option to extend the contract for an additional 5 years.
The hosted solution will provide the county with disaster recovery services for its payroll system and is designed to provide increased network uptime and redundancy, while alleviating application management burdens, enabling county employees to increase productivity and focus on their core competencies. For example, the county's Information Services Department will be able to focus more resources on strategic information technology initiatives and end-user support, rather than increasing or shifting resources to support a new system.
"With nearly 5,000 employees relying on our payroll system, we recognized that the time was right for us to change our way of thinking and embrace the concept of reinvention," said Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. "Through our hosting agreement with IBM, we will be able to improve efficiencies and productivity, and better serve our customers, especially county taxpayers."
Under terms of the deal, IBM will provide over 3,000 custom-built small form factor desktops and traditional desktops in 2005 alone, and begin upgrading existing IBM eServer xSeries systems. Furthermore, the SAP solution will run on an IBM eServer pSeries system at the Greece data center.
IBM is providing its PCs and servers through local vendors, DLI and Western NY Computing Systems, a Synergy Company, as part of its partnership program in Monroe County, bringing increased revenue to the county and strengthening its overall economy.
