Guided by Gov. Edward G. Rendell's goal to improve educational outreach, the Web site is a joint effort by the departments of Agriculture and Education, as well as other organizations to ensure the state's agricultural future.
"Marketplace for the Mind has proven to be a valuable tool in educating Pennsylvanians on many aspects of modern agriculture," said Wolff. "With fewer and fewer Americans engaged in farming, the understanding of the industry has diminished over time. Resources like the Marketplace help to build awareness among the public by those in and around agriculture."
Visitors can find a wealth of educational resources on the site, which contains a library of agricultural resources, curriculum and project ideas, as well as information on events and opportunities in higher education. Online teaching materials have been designed to conform to state educational standards.
"In order to promote the future prosperity of farming and agribusiness in Pennsylvania, we must teach people of all ages the importance agriculture holds to our state economy and way of life," said Wolff.
