Pierce County Opens First Domestic Violence Kiosk

Protection orders generated quickly

Pierce County, Wash., just launched its first domestic violence kiosk, said Larry Gezelius, of Pierce County Information Services. The kiosk, located in the Gig Harbor City Hall, allows a person to file a protection order petition without having to make a trip to the County/City Building in Tacoma.

The kiosk is a Web-based application developed by Pierce County using Justice XML Data Dictionary (JXDD) standards. The kiosk dynamically generates PDF documents that are electronically filed with Superior Court. GIS technology is used to determine which law enforcement agency should be notified if a temporary protection order is granted by a court commissioner.

More kiosks are planned, according to an article in the Tacoma News Tribune.
