Portland, Ore., Chief Technology Officer Appointed

Mark Greinke brings 21 years of technology leadership to the position.

Kenneth L. Rust, the City of Portland's Chief Administrative Officer announced the appointment of Mark Greinke as the city's new Chief Technology Officer following a west coast search with 120 applications for the position. Greinke has been with the city for over three years first serving as the Portland's Information Security Manager and most recently as the Interim Chief Technology Officer.

"I'm extremely pleased with Mark's appointment," said Mayor Tom Potter. "Mark has a keen sense of the challenges facing the City. We are fortunate to have Mark as part of the OMF Team."

Greinke joined the City following 11 years with Intel Corporation, in Hillsboro Oregon where he lead technology initiatives to move many of Intel's businesses processes from paper to online transactions as well as the automation of Intel's latest chip factories.

"Intel was a wonderful learning experience & proving ground." said Greinke. "After 11 successful years, I was interested in applying my skills and experience in support of our local community. The City of Portland was a great choice to do just that."

The city is facing several critical challenges in the area of technology. Several essential public safety systems are approaching obsolescence and need to be replaced and enhanced.

"Along with maintaining core services, it is my objective to better leverage technology to enable new efficiencies in the delivery of more effective city services to the public" Greinke said. Examples include implementing technologies that will allow Police Officers to spend more time in the community by filing reports electronically from the field as well as more online services supporting round-the-clock and more transparent ways for the community to interact with the City government.

Staying current with rapidly evolving business needs and technology trends is essential. Greinke is actively engaged in the Portland technology arena including serving in leadership roles on several regional government committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors of a local technology professional association. Greinke graduated in 1985 from the National Institute of Technology in Akron Ohio.
