Rapidly-Growing Sheriff's Office Expands Technology

"The Harris County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing exceptional service ... and technology plays a major role"

Harris County, Texas, has expanded it alliance with MTM Technologies, Inc. to deliver comprehensive IT infrastructure solutions to the county's rapidly-growing Sheriff's office, including access, consolidation, and virtualization. MTM Technologies is also providing seven engineers to work on-site as part of a long-term assignment.

According to the US Census Bureau, Harris County, which encompasses the city of Houston, is the third most populous county in the United States and the most populous county in the State of Texas. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has grown remarkably, with its IT staff supporting over 3800 users in 51 sites, up from just 600 users in 20 sites only seven years ago.

"The Harris County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing exceptional service and protection to our community, and technology plays a major role in our ability to provide the service levels that our community expects and deserves," said Harris County Sheriff Tommy Thomas. "The tremendous growth of our department has required an aggressive approach to the expansion of our IT capabilities, and MTM Technologies was able to recommend and deliver a comprehensive solution."

The solutions provided to the Harris County Sheriff's Office include an upgraded Microsoft-based infrastructure, better security, data back up, plus a new storage area network, providing high availability of data, improved storage utilization, enhanced performance, and a lower total cost of ownership.
