Chief Martinez will take over from Carole Hopwood. Hopwood retired Dec. 31, after serving Sacramento County in that role since 1984. With the storms forecasted for the region over the weekend, Hopwood and Martinez are working closely to coordinate possible emergency operations efforts as they jointly monitor the situation. When the Board of Supervisors resumes session on Jan. 10, a contract for Chief Martinez's services as emergency operations coordinator will be presented for its consideration.
