Sacramento County Registrar of Voters Partners With Latino Task Force

Forum to encourage Latino population to become active participants in the electoral process

The newly created Latino Task Force will hold its first Voter Forum on Saturday, May 13, 2006 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Teichert Boys and Girls Club located at 5212 Lemon Hill Ave, Sacramento. The purpose of the forum is to reach out to Sacramento County's Latino population and encourage them to become active participants in the electoral process.

Based on the 2000 Census data, the U.S. Department of Justice requires the Sacramento County Elections Office to expand outreach to the Latino community according to Registrar of Voters Jill LaVine. "We are pleased to partner with the Latino Task Force in this important effort," said LaVine.

Twenty-two candidates from statewide offices and those representing the southern part of the County have agreed to participate so far. Xochitl Arellano, reporter and host of KUVS Univision "Voz Y Voto," will emcee the forum. Former Sacramento Mayor Ann Rudin, now with the League of Women Voters, will discuss State propositions and local county measures.

Elections Office outreach staff will be on-hand to help register voters and demonstrate the new voting equipment.
