San Diego County Adopts New Purchasing Strategy

Trial run of Web application showed immediate cost savings

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The county of San Diego, one of the largest counties in the country, will utilize new tools and services to automate internal sourcing processes as well as to auction goods and services.

The county needed a cost-effective means to leverage sourcing processes across its many spend categories. During its trial phase, the county's Department of Purchasing and Contracting conducted two Web-based sourcing events for the purchase of 250 administrative and public safety vehicles valued in excess of $4.5 million. The two events saved the county of San Diego over $75,000. Due to this success and the systems functionality and services, the county pursued a long-term agreement with Procuri.

Winston McColl, director of Purchasing and Contracting said, "Since joining the county, it became obvious we needed a sourcing tool that could be applied across our diverse spends to generate high cost savings. We knew that the advanced functionality and quality features of Procuri's solutions could help us to reach our financial objectives."

Based on the contract, Procuri will train the county's purchasing specialists to automate their sourcing process and to manage the bidding of goods and services for the county, including construction services. The solution and services will allow the county of San Diego to optimize more sourcing events across more spends to increase financial growth.
